Very helpful and energetic employees who care about their customers whether you're buying or browsing. Would definitely recommend this store to anyone looking for boots or shoes from dress to work or play at an affordable price. This will be my future show store of choice. I confess to not liking these big, crowded and confusing stores, but I came here looking for a pair of athletic shoes thinking I might find a deal. This place is ICKspensive. That was my first impression as I looked at just how many shoes of all types were priced in excess of $1. I mosied over to the discount store across the street. Very few choices, and the real deals, say $3. Walmart- shoes that look and feel like plastic, and were not known or popular brands. After trying on a few, I bought a pair, and felt like I got a very good deal. I had shopped at other DSW stores before, and was pleased to return there. ![]() So The Shoe Box was a disappointment to me, but there were lots of people there all the same. Another good reason, at least for me, to shop elsewhere. Very sorry to report this as we have been loyal customers of this place for years. ![]() ![]() If you are going through Black Earth, especially on a Weekday, give yourself 4. Every box is clearly marked on the outward facing side with the size, width, list price, and markdown price. It is not well organized, and you have to sort through each one, but hey, lot's of people are shopping there. If you do choose to purchase, they bring your box up to the front so you don't have to juggle it while you continue to browse. The prices tend toward the higher side, but it's because they carry quality brands and provide real service. Every box is clearly marked on the outward facing side with the size, width, list price, and markdown price. It is exceedingly well organized considering the sheer volume of items and the state the average department store shoe section is in. The larger of their two parking lots is here, and there is a cross walk between the bargain side and the main shop. It did take me awhile for me to find someone to help me, but as soon as I did they were quick at trying to find what I needed. They were completely out of my size (and the surrounding sizes that may have fit, which the sales associate was awesome enough to have checked for before coming back out), which was a bummer, but at least I now know where I can find some comfortable- looking dress shoes. The associates don't just grab you shoes and walk away, they fit you, put the shoes on for you, lace them up, and wait for you to walk around to see if they are to your liking. If you need a minute to think, they make a round to check on others in the area and then come back to see if they can get you anything else. If you do choose to purchase, they bring your box up to the front so you don't have to juggle it while you continue to browse. Definitely worth the easy drive out to Black Earth if you're looking for something specific, an uncommon size, or a specialty shoe. I waited for a very long time to get someone to serve me. I was trying to get a man's shoe, although I am a woman (they are for work). Employees just kept passing me by even though I was smiling, and trying to make eye contact. I watched a male employee work with a customer until he was clearly finished. I asked if he could help me get this shoe in my size, and he told me he would get someone. Eventually a woman came and helped me. Turns out I can not be assisted at the Shoe- Box by a man! Only female employees are allowed to assist female customers. As a customer I find this very annoying, and I will not only talk to female employees for assistance. How does this even happen? Is this even legal? Before I start with the review, a quick quiz. Do you like getting a bargain on shoes? The selection of shoes here is unbelievable. You can even find really good bargains. The staff is very helpful and efficient. ![]() And I just dont get that kind of service out in California. See you next August! Locking down contracts. ![]() The rest of the showroom is quite pricey. The ladies section isn't anything special, I can name 2 stores with similar selection and better prices. The bargain ladies section is no good. Pricey for outdated styles. You'll need to scour for attractive men's shoes but there are some sweet dress shoes. Mmmm yeah tuxedos for your feet. During the 4. 5 minutes of store time, visiting each section, we were not approached once. The cashier was nice but an employee offered help to the woman right next to me, she didnt need assistance, and then the employee glanced at me then proceeded to walk away. I think it's important to note that my husband was the only non white customer in the store. After placing an order through their online store more than two weeks ago, I was just informed that my order was canceled. It really does live up to its name of being the . I live in Texas and buy most of my shoes here when visiting. Great selection and super friendly personnel- -well trained to help you with sizes and selection but without putting pressure on. Spacious aisles, well- organized merchandise, water cooler with lemon slices (sometimes it's the little touches that win me over) and as always, great selection and prices. Staff is arrogant. They act like they are doing you a favor for letting you shop there. And their prices really are not that great. Black Earth is home to more than just meat. And was probably a barn before it became an emporium of fancy footware, socks and accessories. Whether you're looking for a simple sandal coming in at about $2. I can't pronounce, The Shoe Box has you covered. There's always a huge selection of athletic sneaks. Not surprising given the general population of cheese curd slash beer drinkers who probably don't need to replace their New Balance yearly. After you eye over the sale stuff, work you way back up front. It's organized pretty darn well, but if you can't seem to see what your right and left need, ask someone. In the words of critic Hermione Lee: Philip Roth's fiction strains to shed the burden of Jewish traditions and proscriptions. The liberated Jewish consciousness, let loose into the disintegration of the American Dream, finds itself deracinated and homeless. American society and politics, by the late sixties, are a grotesque travesty of what Jewish immigrants had traveled towards: liberty, peace, security, a decent liberal democracy. Since the 1. 99. 0s, Roth's fiction has often combined autobiographical elements with retrospective dramatizations of postwar American life. Roth has described American Pastoral and the two following novels as a loosely connected . Each of these novels treats aspects of the postwar era against the backdrop of the nostalgically remembered Jewish- American childhood of Nathan Zuckerman, in which the experience of life on the American home front during the Second World War features prominently. A more satirical treatment of the patriotism and idealism of the war years is evident in Roth's comic novels, such as Portnoy's Complaint and Sabbath's Theater. In The Plot Against America, the alternate history of the war years dramatizes the prevalence of anti- Semitism and racism in America at the time, despite the promotion of increasingly influential anti- racist ideals during the war.
